the sandpit becomes a water slide

The 'great rains of February' saw our playground become a swamp and our sandpit become a swimming pool, much to the delight of many a three to five year old.

I love to watch how the children use these changes to the environment in their play.  They invented swinging in the rain.  They invented 'float around the sandpit in the orange trough'.  And they invented the water slide:



It bought back memories of the little known sport of mud surfing that was invented by some of our kids a few years back:


While I'll be happy when I can once more venture outside without gumboots on, I know that many of the children will miss the magical water world that is their playground when it finally dries out.
