it's playtime - go outside and play!

Did you know that today's children are spending less time playing outdoors, and more time indoors that at any other time in history?

Free, unstructured play outdoors - particularly in natural spaces - is fast disappearing from our children's lives with worrying effects on their health, wellbeing and learning.  Quite simply, there has never been a more important time for parents and educators to get their children playing outdoors.

Which is just what these It's Playtime contributors did last week.

There was tree climbing - Prepare for School:  Climb a Tree over at Pre-school Play

There was backyard play with natural materials over at Garden Soup from Lismore Mama

There was nature play for babies over at Baby Time: Staying at Home is For the Birds from The Educators' Spin On It

And glorious muddy fun at Miniature Landscapes from Growing Play

Meet my Partners in It's Playtime:

What have you been playing this week?

  1. Hi! I'm a stay at home mom of a 1 year old in the U.S. He's very interested in everything, but sometimes I feel like he's bored. Would you be able to send me some type of curriculum you use with your kids, examples of certain learning activities etc. I've been able to find loads of inspiration on your blog. Thank you!
