caves; real and created

One of our five year olds girls is pretty unimpressed that we don't have a cave at preschool.

I know, what were we thinking!

With her current interest in all things cave people, we decided to create one ourselves:

I'm fairly certain that cave men didn't cook with saucepans on camp fires, but we let that historical discrepency slip:

On their weekly bushwalk the children found a real cave to explore (well, more of a rock overhang, but near enough):

And even had time for a bit of prehistoric-ish rock art:

  1. Is that another irresistible use for your plastic weaving mesh I see Jenny?!

    Donna :) :)

Oh BTW ... all our cats and dogs have now returned home safe and sound! :)

  2. I love how you shower your kids with respect by paying such close attention to what they are interested in. And you're also making me envious with all that warm weather.

  3. What a great cave! I may have to share these pictures and ideas with my students who are currently all about pretending to be bears and cougars!

  4. A very inspirational blog, it's the sort of preschool/early school experience I want for my little one. Can you tell me where your school is? I'll be doing my remote teacher thing in the bush in a few years time and will have to travel for work, so hopefully we'll end up near you. :)

  5. Hi Renee, we are not actually remote! We are on the outskirts of Sydney - up the northern beaches way.
