a water wall for water play

"What exactly is a water wall?" you may well ask.

The water wall is the brainchild of one of my lovely colleagues - an outdoor contraption for water play designed so that the children at preschool can direct water in various streams, drips, and flows when it is poured over the top.

The children helped to drill different sized containers onto an old piece of board we had lying around.  Each container had holes poked or pricked or cut out of the bottom.

You could also use a fence or piece of peg board as a backing, and add other elements such as funnels and lengths of tubing.

A simple, inexpensive way to inspire hours of fun and experimenting with water (and to reuse all of your old plastic containers!).

There are now examples and how-to's for water walls all over the blogosphere.  For more information, these Pinterest boards are chock full of ideas:

Have you created a water wall.  Share your link in the comments so we can pop on over a take a peek!

  1. Oooh, I bet they loved getting to build with real tools. I love that it is summer time there - here in Indy, it is freezing cold!

  4. Its so easy - and all with recycled stuff too. And it lasted a surprisingly long time outside in the elements too. Happy water walling :)

  8. Oooh, I loved that you used a board instead of drilling holes in a fence. This is perfect for us apartment dwellers :)
